Other Kinases

Kinases are enzymes that transfer phosphate groups from molecules like ATP to specific substrates. Those substrates may be proteins, lipids, nucleotides or carbohydrates. Kinase phosphorylations are critical steps in hundreds of cellular biochemical pathways. Approximately 2% of all human genes code for Kinases and up to 30% of all proteins are modified by kinases. The enormous diversity and important role of kinases make them a common target for study in drug design.
