Cell lines are frequently adapted to suspension culture for scale-up protein production, often in combination with adaptation to growth in serum-free medium. Blue Sky Biotech developed a proprietary process, Evolution Accelerated (EVA™) that shortens timelines and improves the success rate of cell line adaptation to suspension culture and growth in new media (e.g. serum-free media). The technology is a significant improvement over traditional weaning methodology and suspension culture adaptation. In the traditional weaning process, cells are adapted to new media by gradually increasing the proportion of new media in cultures over an extended period. The method is unpredictable, tedious, and time consuming and not all cell lines can be adapted to new media by weaning.
